For those who love to own handmade Windsor chairs, I offer exquisitely carved details.

As someone who has been a woodcarver for over 27 years, I can carve just about anything--a folk figure, the top of an 18th century style tool chest, a raised panel door, etc.  But, I especially enjoy carving arms and crests for authentic Windsor chairs.  Whether it is turning a chair leg or my approach to carving Windsor chairs, I strive to give you fine craftsmanship that is neither overstated nor lacking in beauty.   My goal is to offer you a truly fine reproduction Windsor chair that is authentic to the way they were made in the 18th century.

A Tool Chest for a Pro
Here are some pictures of my Windsor Chair Makers Tool Chest.  I built this chest and three trays by using hand cut dovetail joinery. For the top, I used chip carving to individualize the chest to reflect my life and beliefs.

"Great tool box Jim.  Your chip carving is superbly executed and I really like your design.  It should be an inspiration to everyone. All the best"

You came here looking for carving details on Windsor chairs.  Get ready cause I've got them for you.
My handcrafted Windsor chairs feature hand shaped seats and exquisitely carved arms/crests.  Carving these Windsor chair parts was one of the things that led me to develop a great appreciation for those 18th Century chair makers whose skill made these furniture pieces works of art.   I hope you'll enjoy looking at the carved details captured in these photos.  As you can see, the combination of carefully carved surfaces with polished and worn milk paint layers creates stunning reproduction Windsor chairs.  The images are from a Nantucket Fan Back chair that features a distressed black over red milk paint finish.   The hand rubbed milk paint finish (as shown) makes this another beautiful black Windsor chair.
Look at these carving and finishing details for a Nantucket Fan Back chair.  I went the extra mile of adding a distressed look and it made a huge difference. Friends, this is owning a family heirloom.  I'd  love to make one for you.  I'll make whatever adjustments you need to create the impression you want for a quality reproduction chair in your home.

Carving Details for a Philadelphia High Back Chair
I offer these photos so you can see firsthand that how my chairs truly excel in the carving of the crest ears and arm knuckles for this Philadelphia High Back style.  I think you'll agree that clean crisp details make a difference, because they reflect the skills of the chair maker who made it.    In a word, I will strive to give you elegance.
