Thank you for wanting to learn more about my passion for Windsor Chair Making. I have recently relocated to Northwestern Ohio, in Hicksville, Ohio. Formerly, I was located in Upstate New York. Now I am again a full time Lutheran pastor and God has blessed me to serve at St. John Lutheran Church. This website is a celebration of my desire to make Windsor chairs and I've been making them by hand since 2007. My family has woodworking in its blood, and I've been making quality furniture for several decades.
I spoke earlier about being a woodcarver for over 27 years. During that time, I was blessed to have received training in woodcarving from many instructors including Wayne Barton and Harley Refsal. Before I made Windsor chairs, my focus was on building Shaker pieces, including chairs, along with Country style furniture.
As a Windsor chair maker I value fine craftsmanship. If properly cared for, my chairs are made to last generations. Therefore, you have my assurance that I won't put my brand and our label on a chair that doesn't meet standards.
Professional Affliations
From 2007 to 2009, I received training in the art of making Windsor chairs. I was trained by Mike Dunbar and the staff at the Windsor Institute. Additional styles of Windsor chairs as well as innovative chair forms will be offered for sale in the future as we strive for professional excellence.
I am a member of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers (www.sapfm.org). My furniture interests are to make quality reproductions and my love for Windsor chairs will undoubtedly lead me to make an assortment of period pieces.
Historic Fort Wayne, Indiana
Barb and I served as 18th century costumed re-enactors who volunteer at the Historic Fort Wayne Site in Fort Wayne, Indiana. At this war of 1812 era site, I demonstrated primitive woodworking techniques and Barb demonstrates Scherenschnitte, a German art form whereby detailed profiles are hand cut from paper and then framed.
I now serve as a Lutheran pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Hicksville, Ohio. This is my second career after being ordained in 2004. Previously, I served at United Lutheran Presbyterian Parish in Dolgeville, New York. Barb and I are very blessed to live in Ohio again and to be close to family.
Northwestern Ohio Woodworkers Guild
I am a member of the Northwest Ohio Woodworkers Guild which holds monthly meetings at Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, Ohio.
